Extra! Extra! Read All About it!--Contemporary English Through Newspaper Articles is a reading skills text, with exercises and discussion topics, that concentrates on contemporary English through newspaper articles. These short, easy to understand articles focus on actual news events from around the world; the activities are designed to challenge students by forcing them to search their brains for the correct answers (through the process of elimination and deduction).

 

Students are encouraged to depend upon their previously learned knowledge, word association, and cognates that are common to both English and Japanese, to figure out the main idea behind the reading.

 

The vocabulary exercises are specially designed to help students understand words from context (without the use of a dictionary). Other sections check comprehension and call on students to produce spoken English.
