Todd Jay Leonard lives, writes, and teaches in Kyushu (southern Japan) where he is a professor at Fukuoka University of Education.  A long-term resident of Japan, he has published extensively in academic journals, magazines, and newspapers in the areas of education, cross-cultural understanding, Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and spirituality.  He is the author of 20 books.

The Association for the Scientific Study of Religion-Southwest Region was founded in the early 1980s as an organization where researchers from the liberal arts and the social and behavioral sciences could gather each year to share their research efforts, interests, and ideas as they related to the study of religion in society.  Through the combined efforts of the late sociologist Morton B.
